In the southern countryside of Idlib, where everything was simple and beautiful, Khaled lived a childhood full of dreams. Every evening, he would sit with his father under the olive trees, listening to his inspiring stories about heroes who made a difference through their knowledge and courage. As a young boy, Khaled promised his father that he would one day be like them.

Little did he know that those moments would become cherished memories after the war changed everything.

Khaled lost his father in a devastating bombing and suddenly found himself facing a harsh and unforgiving reality. Nothing was the same anymore. Orphaned, Khaled lived with his elderly grandmother in a small camp in the Deir Hassan region, surrounded by daily scenes of suffering.

Life in the camp was tough. The makeshift shelter offered no protection from the cold, and food was barely enough. But for Khaled, the hardest part was the lack of access to schools. Every day, he saw children his age dropping out of education, and he feared he would become one of them.

Yet Khaled was not ready to give up on his dream. Thanks to your support and the Masarat initiative, we provided Khaled with a golden opportunity to return to school. That moment marked a turning point in his life. With every page he read and every lesson he learned, he felt closer to building the future he had always dreamed of.

Today, Khaled doesn’t dream just for himself. With a confident smile, he says:
“I want to become an engineer, not only to rebuild the houses that were destroyed but to rebuild people’s lives as well. I want to see children playing in safe schools and people living without fear.”
