Summary

CDVTA plans to educate 800 elders, women, disabled and people with frail health conditions on the covid-19 outbreak in Cameroon ensuring that information on this pandemic is accessible to locals in 8 poorest villages. The project will train and support 50 local volunteers to sensitize and educate the population on preventive measures while providing protective gear and hand sanitizers to 800 needy persons. Hand washing facilities will be installed in the villages for Covid-19 prevention

Challenge

Cameroon is politically and economically unstable, resulting in increased hardship and people fleeing armed conflicts to unaffected areas. The covid-19 outbreak has caused increased suffering, especially in conflict affected rural villages. As the 6th most affected African country, given their limited access to good health facilities, the number of affected persons in rural areas could triple among women, elders and people with underlying health conditions due to lack of information on covid-19

Solution

CDVTA will establish a covid-19 response framework in 8 villages by training and supporting 50 volunteers to sensitize and educate 800 vulnerable people on prevention measures. 800 needy people will be supported with facemasks, hand sanitizers and soap, while hand washing facilities will be installed in these villages, close to homes of people with disabilities and elders for Covid-19 prevention. Information to be made accessible in these villages through leaflets and local communication methods

Long-Term Impact

The covid-19 response will empower volunteers and vulnerable people to continue to share and practice covid-19 prevention measures with their families and community members who will in turn adopt these preventive measures to protect themselves from the virus. It will prevent conditions of increased suffering among vulnerable people, caused by lack of information on covid-19 and their inability to provide basic subsistence for their families if they contract the virus.
