Joy at the Girls Mentoring program on Adolescence

Project Supporters,

Thanks to your ongoing support, the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) team held another girls’ mentoring program in late February on the topic of adolescent reproductive health. Twenty young ladies in Freetown attended February’s mentoring session. One of the girl’s, Joy, tells us in this video what she learned today-

My name is Joy. I am a beneficiary of Develop Africa Sierra Leone. I am so grateful to Develop Africa and want to thank them for everything. What I have learned from this session is how to take care of yourself during your period and it is normal if a young child sees menstruation at the age of 11-14 years old. I want to thank Develop Africa for this opportunity. Thank you.

Adolescence is a crucial stage for girls as they begin to explore and develop their identities in cultural and societal expectations. It is evident from research that girls are susceptible to challenges related to their self-esteem, personal growth, and development, physical and reproductive health. Mentoring is a platform that leads to interventions that provide supportive environments, advice, and friendship at this crucial time in a girls’ development.

With the help of mentoring, girls can become motivated and more confident in their abilities. Your support is changing girls' lives. Our recurring donors are making a continuous impact and we are truly grateful for the ongoing support.

If you are not yet a recurring donor, we warmly invite you to consider setting up a recurring donation. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. Consistent support is the key as this is the best way to ensure ongoing impact.

Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this worthy, ongoing project.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

With great appreciation,

Amy and the Develop Africa team

PS. #InternationalWomens Day is only 3 days away! This year, there’s plenty to celebrate with 50% matching on all donations from March 8-12 up to $50.
