Literacy & Education Matter

By Amy M Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Ballusa
Ballusa

Today is International Literacy Day, which reminds us of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights for all.

Gender-transformative education unlocks the potential of learners in all their diversity, contributes to ending harmful gender norms, attitudes and practices, and transforms institutions to achieve just equal, and inclusive societies. Girls’ and women’s education also has the power to save lives, stimulating multiplier effects that reduce poverty, maternal and infant mortality, and early marriage.  - https://www.unesco.org/en/gender-equality/education/need-know

Your support for girls' education & literacy in Sierra Leone is helping educate and empower girls and young women in Sierra Leone to become educated and self-sufficient.

Ballusa has been receiving educational support and is very thankful for supporters, like you, who are helping her go to school.  She is in junior secondary school and enjoys reading, mathematics, and dancing. She hopes to become a nurse when she grows up.

We invite you to help change more girls' lives. Making a monthly donation is the most effective way to help girls get their education, but every dollar donated makes a difference!

If you are not yet a recurring donor and would like to sign up for a recurring donation go here.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

Matching Alert-From Sept. 12-16, when you give up to $50 to support girls' education, GlobalGiving will match your generosity at 50% for the #LittleByLittle campaign.

With great appreciation,

Amy and the Develop Africa team
