Successful Entrepreneur Shows 27 Girls How to Be Creative

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Unemployment is a global challenge; one of the ways we are addressing that challenge is through mentoring young girls and conducting workshops to provide them with skills beyond their regular school and college education.

Thanks in part to your support, a mentoring session was held for 27 girls on how to use their creative skills to develop new products themselves, we could help broaden their thinking of not just “looking” for jobs but learning to create their “own” jobs.

Young and successful entrepreneur, Moiyatu K. was the guest speaker at the event. Moiyatu K. is the founder of Mio Fashion & Design. After graduating from Fourah Bay College University, Moiyatu always had a flair for makeup and fashion design. After graduating she started her search for a salaried job, but the lack of good opportunities got her thinking on a different path. In 2018, she decided to start her own business, Mio Fashion & Design. She started by designing dresses, bags, slippers, and bridal makeup. Today she is a successful entrepreneur funding her own business as well as providing financial support for her family.

In this video, you can see how Moiyatu gave the girls hands-on experience in creating designs with beads-making products like slippers, elastic hair bands, and non-elastic hair bands.  Several of the mentees also expressed their gratitude saying

Thank you very much for supporting this mentoring session. We learned a lot.  Thank you very much!
