Empowering Girls, Building Futures: Celebrating International Day of the Girl

Observed annually on October 11, the International Day of the Girl is a vital moment to celebrate girls across the globe, amplifying their voices. Being a girl should never determine what one can achieve, where one can go, or who one can become.

This year’s International Day of the Girl highlights “Girls’ Vision for the Future.”  Investing in girls' futures is not only the right thing to do; it’s a direct investment in our shared future. When girls succeed, we move closer to achieving global progress.

Thanks to your generous support, girls like Binta are getting the education they deserve. Binta received school supplies and tuition support for this school year. She is in Senior Secondary School and her favorite subjects are English and Religious Moral Education. She dreams of becoming an engineer one day—and with your continued support, that dream is within reach.

Your contributions are transforming girls into educated, self-sufficient, and empowered women. Monthly donations are the most effective way to ensure sustained support, but every dollar counts! If you haven’t yet, consider signing up for a recurring donation.

Another way you can help is by spreading the word. Share this project with your network and encourage them to support the cause. You can use this text for social media:

"I support girls' education in Sierra Leone. Educated girls empower entire nations. Learn how you can make a difference too at https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/educate-a-girl-educate-a-nation-sierra-leone/ #DayoftheGirl"

Thank you for standing with us to build a brighter, more equitable future for girls in Sierra Leone. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Amy and the Develop Africa Team
