Thanks in part to your support, girls enrolled in the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) Student Training Program are gaining essential computer skills that will open doors to future opportunities. Over the past weeks, our students have been actively learning and mastering various Microsoft Office applications, equipping them with valuable digital literacy.
This report on the progress of the current class is from the instructor, "We began with computer basics, as nearly 90% of our students had no prior experience with computers. They first learned how to navigate using a mouse and keyboard before progressing to typing tutorials, which helped them develop confidence and efficiency.
Students then moved on to Microsoft Word, where they learned to create professional documents such as letters and resumes. This foundational knowledge prepares them for both academic and career pursuits. Excel followed, introducing students to essential data management and calculation skills, including payroll tables, financial functions, and chart creation—valuable tools for business and administration.
In PowerPoint, students explored creative design, learning how to create engaging presentations, birthday cards, and holiday greetings. This hands-on experience boosted their ability to express ideas visually. Finally, students are currently working on Microsoft Publisher, where they are learning to design and print professional documents like calendars and invitation cards. This practical skill set will not only aid them in future employment but also provide opportunities for self-sufficiency through freelance work."
These young women are gaining the knowledge and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Thank you for being a part of their journey!
If you haven’t already, we invite you to set up a recurring donation to help us continue this life-changing program. Every gift, big or small, brings us closer to equipping more students with the digital skills they need for the future!
With appreciation,
Amy & The Develop Africa Team
