Clean Hands, Healthy Futures: Promoting Hygiene at FAWE Primary School

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

FAWE Students with their new Handwashing Stations
FAWE Students with their new Handwashing Stations

We’re excited to share the impact of a simple but powerful initiative that’s keeping kids healthier and safer every day!

As part of our commitment to public health and child wellness, Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) recently donated two fully equipped handwashing stations to the FAWE Primary School. These stations are helping students build lifelong hygiene habits while protecting them from disease in Sierra Leone.

What We Provided:

  • 2 Veronica buckets with stands – enabling proper handwashing with running water

  • Liquid soap & hand sanitizers – for effective germ removal

  • Colorful handwashing posters – with easy-to-understand instructions to encourage healthy habits

These materials were installed at strategic points throughout the school, ensuring that every student and staff member has easy access to proper hygiene facilities.

Here's how this intervention is making a difference:

Fighting the Spread of Disease
Regular handwashing significantly reduces the risk of infections. These stations empower children to protect themselves and each other.

Creating Safer Classrooms
A clean learning environment means fewer sick days, better attendance, and more consistent learning for every student.

Encouraging Daily Hygiene Habits
The illustrated posters are fun, educational tools that make handwashing easy to understand and adopt.

Supporting National Health Efforts
By equipping schools, we’re also strengthening the national response to public health challenges.

This project isn’t just about today—it’s an investment in a healthier, more resilient future for our children.   Your generosity is helping keep kids in school, safe, and healthy—thank you.

With gratitude,
The Develop Africa Sierra Leone Team
