Inspired by Compassion: Jeneba's Path to Nursing

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Jeneba is a bright and compassionate girl living in the Bo Town district, located in the southern part of Sierra Leone. She just finished her second year of Senior Secondary School (SSS2) and is looking forward to her third year of Senior Secondary School (SSS3) starting in September.

Jeneba is determined to rise above her circumstances and change the future for herself and her family. Her dream? To become a medical nurse, a calling inspired by her deep compassion for others and the example set by her aunt, who works as a nurse.

Jeneba has seen firsthand how poor healthcare access affects lives in her community. She’s watched neighbors suffer from preventable illnesses simply because medical help is too far away or unaffordable. These painful experiences have fueled her desire to become a nurse and serve in underserved areas where people often go without the care they urgently need.

For Jeneba, nursing is not just a career goal—it’s a mission. She envisions herself working in hospitals and rural clinics, providing care, education, and hope to those who need it most.

Because of your support, Jeneba is staying in school and moving confidently toward her dream. Your generosity is helping her—and so many other girls like her—realize their potential and work toward a future filled with purpose and opportunity.

Thank you for believing in Jeneba. Your kindness is not only changing lives—it’s creating the future caregivers, leaders, and changemakers that Sierra Leone and the world so deeply need.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy and the Develop Africa Team
