Your Impact in Action: Standing with Zainab

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Because of generous supporters like you, girls in Sierra Leone are continuing their education despite overwhelming challenges. One of those girls is Zainab, whose journey powerfully reflects the impact of your kindness.

Zainab lost both of her parents as a young child and was being raised by her grandmother. Six months ago, Zainab experienced another heartbreaking loss when her grandmother passed away, leaving her without the person who had always stood by her side. Today, Zainab lives with her uncle and continues to move forward with quiet determination. Thanks to supporters like you, she has been able to remain in school and focus on her education during the difficult chapters of her life.

Zainab is currently in Senior Secondary School 2 (SSS2).  She excels in Government, Literature, and English, and her teachers describe her as disciplined, thoughtful, and deeply committed to learning. Zainab dreams of becoming a lawyer—a goal inspired by her life experiences and her desire to advocate for vulnerable people who are often denied justice. A school debate on human rights helped her discover the power of the law, and she now sees education as the pathway to protecting others and honoring her grandmother’s legacy.

Your support is helping make this possible. By investing in girls’ education, you are giving students like Zainab more than school fees—you are providing stability, dignity, and the opportunity to transform hardship into hope.

From all of us at Develop Africa, and from Zainab herself, thank you for believing in girls, standing with them through adversity, and helping them pursue their dreams. Your generosity is shaping futures—one determined young woman at a time.

With gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
