Jeneba, a dedicated Year of the Pencil volunteer, recently shared her experience from one of the distributions on November 20th, offering a powerful reminder of how much your generosity truly means to students and educators alike.
At D. T. Akibo Betts Municipal Primary School, 681 students received pencil pouches, including 10 pencils and a pencil sharpener, during the distribution. Despite rainy weather, the school community welcomed the team with overwhelming excitement. Students eagerly came outside to receive their pencils, smiling and celebrating even in the rain.
Jeneba shared that the joy was unmistakable. Teachers and pupils expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, noting how access to basic supplies makes learning easier and more inclusive. The head teacher and staff also shared their hope that this support will continue, expanding beyond pencils to include other essential learning materials that help students fully participate in class.
For many children, your generosity ensures that they no longer have to sit on the sidelines or borrow materials just to take part in lessons.
Thank you for standing with girls across Sierra Leone. Thank you for lighting up classrooms, building confidence, and opening doors—one pencil, one gift, one child at a time.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
