The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown caused our daily lives to come to a standstill. Education institutes all over the world are also closed for an indefinite period. While the world embraces online education more than ever, JAAGO is determined to educate children who do not have access to the internet or computer. In order to continue the education of the underprivileged children, JAAGO came up with an innovative solution to provide education to students over the telephone and SMS!
Unfortunately, it is a sad fact that even today, there exists an unwillingness among a large part of our society about girls receiving education. Some people believe that they should stay at home, do household chores, and look after the children only. Due to such beliefs, lots of women have to engage themselves in 24/7 household activities from a very young age. But in today’s world, it is impossible to bring a positive change while keeping a large number of our girls deprived of education. Our social indifferences, poverty, and many other problems hinder our way to ensure education for each and every woman.
For the past 13 years, JAAGO Foundation has been providing quality education to underprivileged children in Bangladesh. Recently, JAAGO ensured that the students and their families can survive this coronavirus crisis and come back to school. JAAGO Foundation has been providing food packages and other essentials to all the students’ families and surrounding communities who are from a similar background. The Tele education initiative is increasing the engagement of students and their parents with the teachers. We have received a huge number of positive responses from students & parents.
Below, we list just two among countless stories of our young students benefiting from our initiatives.
Riya* has not been able to go to school for months. But Riya, a student at JAAGO School, did not stop her studies. Through our telephone education program, now her favorite teachers are teaching her with the help of a regular mobile phone.
Though there is no obligation to wear a uniform during the class, she puts on her school dress every day. This helps lift her mood up and not be sad about not being able to attend school physically for so long. These days whenever her family members find Riya wearing her uniform, holding the mobile phone to ear, they quickly understand that she is taking her lessons from her teacher. And everybody must maintain silence and not disturb her!
Meena* studies in grade 5 at JAAGO Bandarban school. She is receiving her education over the telephone, as schools are now closed due to the pandemic. However, her home in Bandarban is in an area that is outside of telephone and mobile network coverage. Not willing to let this disrupt her education, she travels every day to her school campus, which has network access, and calls her teachers to take lessons and homework. She sits on the school balcony every day until sunset and finishes her homework and studies. For her security, one of our community officers accompanies her during her entire stay at the school premises.
JAAGO Foundation has reached out to invest in educating girls who need structural support. But we cannot do this alone. You can join the movement to help the agents of hope with your generous donation. We become mature when we realize the needs of others. There are many who are in dire need of support from those of us who can. Let’s respond to this global call and act for a positive change.
Thank You Note

We dream of a better community, a poverty-free country, a healthier nation, and a safe abode for all of our women. And your donations are definitely going to be the first step towards bringing this positive change.
