Educate A Girl

Rabeya* studies in grade 5 at JAAGO Bandarban school. She is receiving her education over the telephone, as schools are now closed due to the pandemic. However, her home in Bandarban is in an area outside of phone and mobile network coverage. Not willing to let this disrupt her education, she travels every day to her school campus, which has network access and calls her teachers to take lessons and homework. She sits on the school balcony every day until sunset and finishes her task and studies. For her security, one of our community officers accompanies her during her entire stay at the school premises. 

Nishat*, a student of class 3 at JAAGO, was receiving her education over the telephone. Her parents have been badly affected because of COVID-19. Her father had to sell his only mobile phone to manage daily food. And now the child has to go to her friend's house, use their telephone to call her teachers. 

11-year- old Jhorna* lives with her mother and three sisters in Cox's Bazar. Abandoned by her husband, Jhorna's mother has to work extra hard to support her family. With schools closed due to COVID-19 and because her mother could not afford it, Jhorna could not continue at school. Her inability to keep her child's education has been a severe burden on Jhorna's mother. When Jhorna started getting an education from JAAAGO, her mother's relief and happiness were palpable. She is proud of the young woman Jhorna is becoming. 

Here, we listed just a few among our young girl students' countless stories benefiting from our initiatives. And all of this is only possible because of you. COVID-19 has brought numerous changes to our familiar world. Countless people lost their jobs. But amid all these, our generous sponsors, well-wishers and teachers were always there to support. With their help, our girls continued their study with the use of a mobile phone. 

But more girls need your support. With the sponsorships, underprivileged girls at JAAGO schools will have a greater chance of escaping poverty, raise the standard of living of their communities, and have healthier and productive lives. With proper education, they will acquire the knowledge and skills to make wise decisions and be self-sufficient.
