Akari, a 9th grader at Christel House Mexico, has been faced with significant obstacles to overcome in her 14 years. Not only has she overcome those obstacles, but she has gone on to accomplish even more significant achievements.
Akari lost her father in a car accident when she was four years old, and she now lives with her mother and sister. Her mother works as a domestic worker. The family rents a small house, which they live in and share one bathroom with five other families. Akari’s home life has presented her with many hardships, but attending Christel House has given her the determination and hope she needed to succeed.
Akari has attended Christel House since 1st grade, and math and English are her favorite subjects. Next year will be her first year of high school and aspires to study criminology in college.
Akari has an extremely bright future ahead of her. She has performed well academically, finishing 8th grade with 9.2 out of 10 point average.
She said that she has benefitted not only from the education that Christel House has provided her, but also from the emotional support she has received.
“When I was in 3rd grade, I was still mourning the death of my dad, and Christel House supported me with counseling to get over the loss of my dad,” Akari said. “Because of that, today I no longer suffer his death.”
Thank you for believing in our students and for helping them to overcome obstacles. Your support is making a tremendous difference.
