Flor thrives at Christel House Mexico
By Paul Montgomery | Director of Marketing and Content Management
Flor, in high school, has a passion for dance.
Flor G. joined Christel House Mexico in first grade. “Christel House has supported me immensely,” she says. Now in high school, Flor recognizes what makes her school special. “What makes a Christel House student different is this quality of taking the reins to reinforce themselves, both personally and academically.” Christel House has changed her life. "Christel House has taught me to value myself and others. I have learned to be grateful." She is amazed at her transformation as a young girl starting school. "From being nervous of coming to a new school to where I am now, I have really grown. Christel House is the best, there is no other school like it."
Flor became interested in dance taking after-school classes offered at Christel House. "I became interested and decided to try it out. I truly love dancing."

Idea Lab opens for students in Mexico
By Paul Montgomery | Director of Marketing and Content Management
Students enjoy the creative tools in the Idea Lab.
It started as a concept for a student lab filled with the latest technology. The Christel House Mexico Idea Lab offers access to robotics, 3D modeling, and programming projects. Surrounded by students, Daniel Espinosa, Master Teacher for Innovation in Education and ICT, and Executive Director Javier Alarcon performed a ribbon-cutting to open the new space.
The lab is designed to allow mobility and collaboration. The room is equipped with 32 laptops and five high performance desktops to accommodate the necessary programs for student learning. “It's important to give students the best experiences available in terms of access and use of the newest materials, software, technology, and methodologies in education,” says Espinosa. Student feedback about the Idea Lab has been positive. “They feel different in that space. They feel like they're at a private university when they access the Idea Lab. It’s very professional.” He adds, “The Idea Lab is only the first part of the new environment we want to redesign at the school.” David Brown, a long-time friend of Christel House Mexico, provided support for the new Idea Lab and is passionate about technology and education. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, he announced two new annual scholarships for Christel House students.

Growing up at Christel House Mexico
By Paul Montgomery | Director of Marketing and Content Management
Flor, now in 9th grade
She's been a familiar face at Christel House Mexico (CHMX) since she started in first grade. Flor R., is now in high school. "The nine years I've been at CHMX, I have seen a lot of changes. I have seen a lot of changes in me – a lot of learning and maturity," she says. "I have developed a different vision of things. Christel House has given that to me."
Flor’s grandmother, Miss Magdalena, has raised Flor since she was born. Flor’s biological mom died during childbirth and her grandmother became Flor’s guardian. Together, they share a one-room home with her uncle. She’s grateful to be growing up with Christel House. “I like the positive attitude of my teachers. They motivate me to learn and pay attention,” she says. “I love the facility, the garden, the labs, the art classroom. My school is beautiful.” Flor’s been selected a School Leader at CHMX. “I think I was elected because I have a good bond with all my classmates and foster them to participate in the school activities. I love when the group shares ideas and we build something together,” she says. While she doesn’t have just one favorite subject in school, she admits liking “everything that includes math!” Flor also enjoys her after-school dance class. “The activity helps me to reduce stress – the music and the dance is a combination I like to feel.” While she still has time before she graduates high school, Flor says she can imagine herself working in the tourism or restaurant industry, traveling around the world. “I would like to share with other countries the Mexican culture and Mexican dishes.”
