Girls Donate Hair for Patients
By Amalia Howard | Digital Marketing Manager

It started as a simple service project by a handful of middle-school girls. But it evolved into a passion project touching many at Christel House Mexico (CHMX). Building character through acts of service and community building is an essential part of an education at Christel House. Therefore, the girls were encouraged to grow their idea into a wider reaching project. Fifty-four girls, from Grades 1 through 11, two staff members and 15 family members joined the cause – cutting and donating locks of their hair to benefit cancer patients. The amazing service project did bring a few tears. “All of the girls were really brave and showed great character,” says Tania Álvarez Madrid from CHMX. “This was such a touching campaign. Witnessing this act of love was impressive.”

By Amalia Howard | Digital Marketing Manager

Christel House Mexico 8th grader Alex knows exactly what she wants to do when she gets to college, and she knows that Christel House will help her get there. “I like going to Christel House because they have a higher quality of education than other schools and they provide me things I need,” she says. Christel House provides her with assistance other schools don’t – food to keep her strong, a nurse to keep her healthy, plenty of space to grow and a safe place to learn. Alex lives in the barrios of Mexico City with her mother, who works during the day, and her older sister, who also attends Christel House. She has been studying there for 8 years, and has since discovered a love of mathematics and the amazing teachers who help her learn what she needs for the future.
Alex wants to study food chemistry (a program like nutrition science) when she gets to college, and is working hard to make sure she gets there. She is currently visiting the US to attend the prestigious Culver Summer Schools & Camps in northern Indiana along with 7 of the best and brightest from Christel House schools around the world. She is well on her way to a bright future and a career she is excited about!
