Alexandra celebrating Day of the Dead at school

Alexandra is a fifth grade student at Christel House Mexico. She lives in a small home with her parents, grandparents and brother. Her mother is a housekeeper and her father drives a taxi. Alexandra shared that there are many issues in her community, “I can see people using drugs and alcohol in the streets on my way to and from school.”

Alexandra started at Christel House when she was in first grade. Education is extremely important to her family. She gets up at 5:30am every morning to make it to Christel House on time. “I like the activities, the education and the teachers—how they explain the subjects. I learn more at Christel House than I would at a public school. I also get breakfast and lunch,” she shared. Many kids in her community don’t go to school at all. “They won’t be able to have a job or a future. If the children come to Christel House, they can have lots of opportunities,” she said.

Alexandra has big dreams for the future. “I want to be an English teacher to help other students.” To those who support Christel House, she says, “Thank you. You give us so much.”

Thank you for your ongoing support of ‘Educate a Mexico Girl-Child from the Barrios.’ Alexandra is one of 409 current Christel House Mexico students who will have a better life because you care.

But there are many more students in need.Would you consider an end of year gift for our students? A gift to help break the cycle of poverty could be the best thing you do all year.
