Flor Builds a Bright Future

By Amalia Howard | Christel House Marketing Manager

Flor’s favorite parts of being a Christel House Mexico student are the classes, delicious food, and great teachers. Without an opportunity for education, Flor’s life might have looked very different. Flor’s mother passed away when she was born and her father did not provide for her. She is being raised by her grandmother who sells sweets on the street all day to help provide for the family. Flor, her grandmother, her aunt and several cousins all live in a two room house in an impoverished neighborhood of Mexico City. Flor and her cousins enjoy visiting parks to play, but they are not allowed out after 8pm because the area is not safe.

Christel House has transformed Flor’s opportunities for the future through the services she receives. “Other schools don’t have a garden, a sports area, special classes, or food every day,” Flor says. Her favorite subjects are math and English and she wants to be a doctor or an artist when she grows up. “Thanks to Christel DeHaan I can learn music, arts and English,” Flor shares. “I love special classes because I can learn how to play instruments, I can draw, make figures, and in computer class I learn how to use the computer. What I like the most are art and sports classes. I am very grateful to all the people at my school, they give me all the support I need. But I am especially grateful to Señora DeHaan.”

Flor is building a bright future through her education at Christel House Mexico. Watch her story through the link below.
