With the world's highest HIV/AIDS prevalence, many of Swaziland's children have lost their parents and face food shortages, poor shelter and care, poverty and lack access to education. We established and support 8 Neighbourhood Care Points (NCP's), each of which hosts between 40 and 90 children. The role is to provide pre-school education, food, support and guidance to vulnerable and orphaned children in their communities. Donations support our sustainability goals for these NCPs
HIV/AIDS has decimated the adult population and means that the children of today will bear more of the burden of building their country in the future. Global studies have highlighted the positive impact of quality preschool education, particularly for disadvantaged children. Less than 30% of children of a pre-primary age in the country attend preschool. The high cost of preschool education means it is not affordable for the many vulnerable families we support, who live below the poverty line.
We provide daily meals and education for preschool vulnerable and orphaned children. The project offers a safe space where children can thrive physically and emotionally. We have a curriculum which improves their learning skills and equips them to start school. They and their families also receive additional support, such as having health checks and learning basic life skills. This project ensures children get a good head start in life, thriving in the education system and in life.
The project gives children a good start in life through improved nutrition and a solid foundation through education. We ensure that children enter primary school on time and are ready to learn. This reduces the risk of dropouts, most of which occur in the first two years of primary school. Improved education benefits the whole family and long-term may improve income. Over 300 children currently attend our 8 Care Points. We want to support many more. Help us build their future!
