Educate an Indian Child Experiencing Poverty

Our holistic approach assures not only a top notch education, but nutrition, medical, and mental health for all our students.

Meet Jennifer, a second grade student at Christel House India. Her father deserted them many years ago and her mother, who used to work as a housemaid, is ill and now unable to work. Jennifer and her little sister seldom have enough food to eat at home.  When it rains their house leaks and they have to bail the water out as if the house were a leaky boat. They rely on the kindness of neighbors to help with their basic needs. Yet, despite all her struggles, Jennifer‘s cheerfulness is contagious.

Jennifer is a hard working student with strong leadership qualities. She loves her teacher, and begins her day by helping set up the classroom for the day.  She is very caring and often helps her classmates with their studies. Jennifer does well academically, has beautiful handwriting and reads well.   She excels in athletics and is also artistically talented.

Jennifer dreams of being a doctor when she grows up and knows that Christel House India will help her realize her dreams. In the two years that she has been attending Christel House India, Jennifer has been transformed from a subdued, timid little girl to a confident and outgoing child –truly a Cinderella story.

OUR LAVASA GIRLS ARE GROWING!

Our first year at Christel House Lavasa has made quite an impact. The children, grades K-2, are progressing unbelievably well. Most can comprehend basic English and have cultivated a sense of hygiene. They are eating much better and as a result have gain an average of 3 kilos.

The children are learning to read in English as well, and have developed reading and comprehension skills that are improving by the day. Most of the Grade 2 children are able to carry on simple conversations with their teachers. Socially, they have become quite confident and energetic. They are a happy and respectful group of children, using “please” and “thank you” on a regular basis.

Our girls at Christel House Lavasa have grown in so many different ways. It has been so exciting to witness their eagerness to learn, while watching their development socially, physically, academically and emotionally.

This year we have 66 girls in the Christel House Lavasa program, 24 in the kindergarten class, 27 in first grade and 15 in second grade. We will continue to expand the school each year.
