Challenge

In Youth Help Sierra Leone's region, mostly girls who do not finish school has low grades and dropouts of learning, This is because of early pregnancy, forced child marriages for fear of security, illness, extreme poverty, and all forms of gender-based violence. These illegal practices are increasing everyday. Only few make it up to university level, even though their grades are also not encouraging. Girls in this communities need support to enable them overcome, stay in schools and a safe home.

Solution

Youth Help will provide education items such as books, uniforms, safe pads, school bags, mentoring and home supports due to their difficult living conditions. Youth Help will monitor their progress to make sure that sponsored girls are given quality education, stay in schools and lessons learnt to end early child marriage, teenage pregnancy, FGM, fight against all forms of violence and be change makers in their community.

Long-Term Impact

Youth Help will support 100 secondary school girls and the three thousand rural girls including boys reached will use lessons learnt to change their communities, set up clubs and empower their peer groups, to say ''NO'' to early child marriage and all forms of high social risk activities, that has been forcing them to drop out of schools. When girls are educated, their peers and communities lives are change resulting in better livelihood, health and education.
