Student Highlights as the Semester Wraps Up!

By gideon mawenya | site manager

From our Tanzanian team:

The children are currently at home on a one-month break. Before the end of the school year, they usually do a test to complete the semester, and for the first semester, most children have done well. For 35 primary school children, 16 have grade A, 17 have grade B and 2 have grade C. For high school students, their performance was as shown below, 5 with grade A, 5 with grade B, 1 with grade C and 4 with grade D. We're so proud of our high achievers, and deeply believe that all students can improve their grades with additional support and encouragement.  We believe in education and better performance for children as a way to lift these children's households out of poverty so that they can support themselves in the future.

We wanted to celebrate the success of one teen in particular!

Abdallah, is a boy of 17 years old, he was born on 14th April 2001 in Baraka village at Monduli district, Arusha. His mother was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS when he was young- something that led to the weakening of her body and become unable to care for Abdallah. She could not afford to put food on the table because of the high costs of her antiretroviral drugs.

Despite a challenging childhood, Abdallah is currently thriving in his secondary education at St Dorcas Leadership Seminary. He is a very calm boy and he likes to mentor his fellow children in school and at the center, he is a patient and good listener. During his free time Abdallah loves to play football and watching television with his Youngs. Abdallah is one year away from completing his ordinary level in secondary education, Computer science is his favorite subject, his ambition is to become computer engineer. We're so proud of his achievements, and those of all our students in the last school year!
