Across Tanzania, most children in orphanages are not orphans at all-poverty is what separates families. Amani Initiatives provides school scholarships, psychosocial care, and women-led livelihood programs so children can stay with their families, not institutions. Our project funds tuition, supplies, and small livestock livelihoods for families in crisis, ensuring children learn, grow, and thrive safely at home.
Across Tanzania, poverty-not lack of love-separates families. Though 80% of children in orphanages have living relatives, most parents cannot afford school costs or transport. In Monduli District, hidden education fees, food insecurity, and drought push families to send children away, breaking bonds that could thrive with support.
Families First helps children stay home, not orphanages. Amani covers school fees, uniforms, and transport for at-risk students while supporting caregivers with goats, chickens, and business training. Families gain income, stability, and confidence. Education, livelihood, and psychosocial care together prevent separation before it happens.
This project helps 50 children stay in school and strengthens 40 women-led households. As income grows and families stabilize, children thrive in loving homes. Over time, Monduli becomes a model for Tanzania's shift to family-based care-showing that when families are supported, institutions are no longer needed.
