YOUR Historic Graduation for Girls!

By Daniele Reisbig | Development Coordinator

Grauating Girls Standing Beside Their Male Peers
Grauating Girls Standing Beside Their Male Peers

This year YOU made history!

25 of YOUR primary school girls graduated and will be the first to attend YOUR Nyaka Secondary and Vocational School in just a few short months.

This means that YOUR girls will have a better chance to reach their dreams! Uganda has a devastatingly high rate of unplanned pregnancy among young girls. About 1 in 4 girls will have a pregnancy before they turn 18. Most secondary schools in Uganda expel girls immediately if they are found to be pregnant, immediately ending her chance to complete her education. Some schools allow girls to come back to school after a year but many girls do not return.

Without an education, girls in Uganda will not be able to speak up and have their voices heard. YOUR support is changing the tides for these girls.

The quality health education and support YOU provide to YOUR girls has done so much to help them avoid unplanned pregnancies but we know that we can do more to ensure that YOUR girls can wait to have their first child when they are ready.

The Nyaka Secondary and Vocational School will mean that YOU Nyaka team will be able to provide more health education and support specific to their needs. Nyaka is committed to YOUR girls and their futures. No girl will be expelled if she becomes pregnant. Instead she will be given additional support to ensure that she can continue her education and care for her child.

Because of YOU, YOUR Nyaka Girls will have more control over their lives.

YOU are also sending girls to University!

YOUR Senior six girls have graduated and will be preparing to attend university in the fall. These students are from YOUR pioneer class of students. They were the first class of students to attend Nyaka Primary School when Nyaka first opened its doors!

The first step to getting more women in a position of power in Uganda is to have more women in University. YOU have given them everything they need to achieve their dreams and now they are doing it!

Thank YOU for making 2014 a fantastic and historic year for YOUR girls!
