Dear Global Givers,
As we write this, India is reeling under a severe crisis from the second wave of COVID-19.
With a daily record of over 300,000 positive cases and the death toll rising at an alarming
rate, 2021 continues to be a difficult year. This year has also been extremely difficult for
school children who have been confined at their homes with schools continuing to remain
shut due to the pandemic.
In the midst of all the uncertainties that lie ahead, we at iPartner India are happy to report that
six girls from our project in Rajasthan through a prevention model ‘RAKSHAN’ (Safety),
have been enrolled at a premium boarding school in the first batch. Currently, their classes
are being held online. In order to ensure that they are able to keep up with the other students
in their classes, extra tuition classes are continuously being held for them.
This journey has not been an easy one for iPartner India. The team members were on their toes for following the shortlisting criteria, selecting the most vulnerable and brightest girls from the community, and for scheduling meetings and counselling sessions with parents during the pandemic. COVID-19 has a huge impact on livelihoods and it puts the girls at a greater risk of being
pushed into the sex trade. In fact, the second wave has made them even more vulnerable. To
keep these girls safe and prevent them from entering into sex work, regular counselling
sessions are being held with their families so that they continue to be supportive towards their
daughter's education.
Attending online classes is another challenge for the girls due to the lack of internet
connectivity and access to digital devices. However, our team on the ground are working
hard to ensure that they are provided with internet data and are able to use their parent’s
mobile phone to attend the classes. We are hopeful that through education support, these girls
will become agents of change in their communities and inspire many more to pursue their
education.
Without your support, these girls would have dropped out and discontinued their education.
But now they have hope for their future, a future where they can choose their own destiny.
iPartner India will continue to reach out to more parents and girls to save them from the sex
trade and to motivate them to hold on to the string of hope for enrolment during the next
academic session. iPartner India still has a fund deficit of 62%, therefore your continued
support is critical for paying the fee for the next quarter and ensuring that girls complete their
academic courses.
Thank you, Global Givers, for walking this journey with us.
With deep gratitude,
Team iPartner India
