Educate Her Empower Her

By Sumedha Sharma | Project Leader

Dear Global Givers,

A very happy 2021 from all of us at iPartner India.

Last year we started the #EducateHerEmpowerHer campaign with a mission to give girls from extremely vulnerable backgrounds an opportunity to pursue their education.

iPartner India’s work in Rajasthan through a prevention model ‘RAKSHAN’ (Safety), is working with the entire ecosystem to save vulnerable girls from inter-generational sex work by focusing on girls’ education to bring about a systematic change and promote holistic development of the community.

Rajasthan has 3.7 million girls in the age group of 14 to 18 years, which constitute 5 per cent of the state’s population. However, as per the National Statistical Office survey, 26 per cent of these children are out-of-school. Of the total out-of-school children, 24 per cent are never enrolled in any school and 60 per cent of those never enrolled are girls. Without your support, many girls in Rajasthan remain vulnerable and face the risk of being trafficked.

Your support has been crucial in 2020. Through your support, we have shortlisted girls belonging to resource-poor backgrounds who are vulnerable to be trafficked and hence are in urgent need for scholarship. We are also encouraging their parents to let their daughters continue with their education. Our team on the ground is also conducting a series of counselling sessions with the girls and their mothers to persuade them to allow their daughters to continue with their education. Many girls have expressed their interest to continue with their education, which prepares them for a better future ahead. The shortlisted girls are undergoing tuitions to prepare them for entrance exams that await them for higher education. With continued intervention at all levels of the community, we look forward to the girls getting access to quality education and a chance to change their destiny.

Thank you, Global Givers for believing in our work and for your continued support. As always, we’ll approach the challenges that 2021 brings with the same determination, focus, and willingness to innovate that has served us well in the past.

Happy New Year once again.

With deep gratitude,

iPartner India Team
