Khoj Achieves its Long Term Goal

By Nasira Habib | Project Leader

The long-term goal of the Khoj education programme in the villages of Sheikhupura was to build the capacity of the local people, especially girls and women. The literacy rate was abysmally low, and it was almost impossible to find women educated enough to become school teachers. Khoj - Society for People's Education accepted the challenge of first providing school education and then training them as teachers. It was not an easy task. The organisation took a two-pronged approach to provide both women's adult and children's school education. The two-year women's adult education was a fast track to lay the foundation and mentor them to become effective teachers. School education offered a much more rigorous and longer-duration teaching and grooming. It is a moment of pride for Khoj to announce that most Khoj school teachers are graduates of the same school.

They are teaching the next generation of children with a far better understanding of the children's learning needs.

Children were assessed at the end of the academic year in the reporting period. Only two children could not go to the next educational level due to their circumstances. Khoj doesn't believe in passing or failing examinations. Different children have different learning styles if the school tries to understand that a different breed of learners is produced.

The credit for these achievements goes to you all! Without your support, we can't achieve these milestones. We need your invaluable financial help to keep moving forward.
