The quarter of September to December 2022 was packed with activity at Khoj School for Community Education.
Teacher Training: The education approach of Khoj school is different from the other government and private schools. Khoj promotes education that is gender-just, relevant, integrative and action-led. Khoj has developed its own curriculum wherein the role of the teacher is critical. To mentor the teachers, Khoj started intensive on-the-job teacher training. Teachers were trained; videos of their teaching at school were viewed, and handholding and mentoring sessions were conducted. As a result, teachers’ performance has been improving significantly.
Repair and maintenance: This work could not take place for three years due to the coronavirus. Massive maintenance operations were carried out, which included repairs and painting of the school building, furniture, and playground.
Increased enrollment: The enrolment in early childhood education increased to thirty-eight children, which is a huge number for one group. Two groups were formed. New furniture was purchased for the second group.
Reading club launched: A children’s reading club was formed to achieve the following objectives:
To improve the reading and comprehension skills of children
To cultivate reading habits in them
To build their consciousness around various social issues
To inculcate a sense of responsibility and other social skills
