This project will provide vocational training to Kenyan women who are striving to become self-sufficient and provide for their families' basic needs. The majority of the women in this program are young, single mothers who are struggling to feed their families. The women will undergo an extensive one-year tailoring course.
44% of Kenya's female population lives below the international poverty line of US$1.25 per day. They are often at risk of being trapped in dehumanizing professions such as the sex trade in order to feed their children. This project will empower poor women in rural villages with valuable sewing skills so that they can earn a living. Moreover, it will help to keep their children at school, eradicating the necessity to force marriage on their young daughters at a very early age
The women live at our Nakuru facility free of charge while attending our on-site 12-month vocational training school where they develop tailoring skills and learn valuable business practices and healthy lifestyle choices. She is then able to start her own tailoring business and earn an income that can provide food, education and basic necessities for her family.
The women participating in this project attend professional workshops which allow them to have a safer and more stable future. As a direct result of this training, these women will have the necessary knowledge to guarantee their independence both professionally and personally. This program helps their families in their daily living as well. The project will educate women allowing them to rise out of poverty and provide for their families' health, education and well-being.
