Summary

We teach young people how to care for the sick. They become a caring medical provider for the future. We do this through young people running medical clinic's in 3rd world countries and disasters in the United States. They learn to triage patients, take vital signs and explain treatment. They are also involved in educating Hondurans in basic hygeine needs, including the contaminated water supply. This is accomplished in mountain clinics and through internships for nursing and pre-med students.

Challenge

The high school dropout rate in the US is 16.4%. Research shows two factors to predict whether a student will drop out. 1) Institutional characteristics of school, family and community. 2) the individuals personal opportunities. Dropouts lives are reset, crime rates increase and are more likely to end up in prison. Before you can choose an educational goal you must learn about yourself. Providing educational opportunities for our youth will give them viable insight on future career choices.

Solution

We will provide educational opportunities for youth to explore their opportunities to work in healthcare.

Long-Term Impact

We will educate 50 youth by giving them the opportunity to be interested in a career path in healthcare. This will give them a viable opportunity and encourage them to continue in their individual educations. This will lower the crime rate in the United States.
