By Gayle Davidson | Founder Clinica de Esperanza (Clinic of Hope)
Ledy is a nursing student at Juan Pablo, Honduras. She is well known to us from a previous program that our organization was involved in called Mi Esperanza. She has worked with their program (a womens loan program) in the past and used her earned funds to pay for her first years of nursing school. Through these efforts she has paid for her schooling and raising her 4 children in the past few years. This is a quote from a Mi Esperanza Employee while determining scholarship recipient qualifications...
"Nursing has always been in Ledy's heart since she was a little girl. Caring for people, knowing she can make a difference in someone's life. She strongly believes she's always had the call, a passion for it, but didn't have the money to pay for this education. Her work thru Mi Esperanza has allowed her to pay her nursing school.
Her main interest for the future is to be a surgical instrumentalist and/or a skilled birth attendant. She also loves children or caring for patients in a critical state, intensive care medicine." (end of quote)
The house that she speaks of was built by Torch Missions, another ministry of ours.
Ledy herself wrote a letter that we have translated to English. I think there is nothing else to say about her motivation and qualifications after reading her words for yourself. We have awarded her a one year scholarship of 975 limpera a month until April 2016. This is approximately $45 USD a month=$540 total. We will keep you updated on her progress. She is currently doing very well in school and A student.

Dear Dr. Gayle Davidson | IRC Medical Director,
May the Divine Creator of our Universe bless your life and your family. My name is Ledy, I live with husband and we have three daughters and a son. We live at Nueva Oriental Community. Our home was built on July 11, 2006 by Torch Missions.
I am a person with many dreams towards the future but my economical resources are limited. Nonetheless, the Lord has opened many doors for me. Ever since I turned 12, I dreamt of becoming a professional. Nursing has always been in my heart, caring for people and hoping I can make a difference in the lives of my people in Honduras. I strongly believe this has been my call, my passion, but couldn’t due to the low income at my home. So I decided to work at home during the day and study at night. That is how I managed to finish three years of high school. When I found my current partner, it was very difficult to keep studying; I had my children and I didn’t have a job at that time. Only my partner worked at that moment. That same year in 2006, to my surprise, the organization The Women of My Hope (Asociación Mi Esperanza) was handing out flyers at Nueva Oriental, offering free training classes in computers, beauty and sewing. I decided to enroll for the sewing courses and ever since that day my life has changed. I feel the Lord has placed this organization as a guardian angel who has guided my life towards my dreams.
I only work two or three times a year with The Women of My Hope, but I get to save money during these seasons, and so I am able to pay for educational fees. With the Lord’s help, my work at The Women of My Hope, and my husband’s support, I managed to graduate as a Baccalaureate in Arts and Sciences in 2013. Later in 2014, I decided to study Nursing. I am currently doing an internship at DIME Hospital. They need nurses filled with patience, willing to stay up all night when the patient is under critical conditions. My main interest for the future is to become a surgical instrumentalist and/or a skilled birth attendant. Only God knows if I will make it through. This 2015 has and will require tremendous effort as I have been working part time at The Women of My Hope, attending my internship at the hospital, and finally returning home to carry on my role as a mother and partner. It is difficult but I know I will manage to graduate as a Nurse. I would like to apply for a scholarship to complete my educational training. It would be a blessing. Please consider me for this awesome opportunity.
