Young women in high school aged 16 to 18 are at a period where they are asked to choose their education and future career path. This project seeks to educate 1000 final-year High School women aged 16 to 18 in the Central and Ashanti regions of Ghana towards Science and Technology as a career path through workshops and information seminars.
Women are still underrepresented in Science and Technology. In Ghana, this is mostly due to the influence of parents and society in one's choice of an academic and career path. The absence of enough female tech role models for young women to look up to has also contributed to this serious underrepresentation. With more female role models and enough knowledge of available possibilities in Science and Technology, high school girls would definitely make a better choice of an academic or career path.
Since young women in high school aged 16 to 18 are at a period where they are asked to choose their academic and future career path, this project will educate and empower 1000 final-year High School girls in Central and Ashanti regions of Ghana toward choosing Science and Technology as a career path. Through workshops and information seminars, these girls will receive accurate information regarding their options in science and tech professions, obstacles to be faced, and successes to be achieved.
Science and Technology is often rejected as a career choice due to limited information available and positive female role models to encourage young girls in participating in technological professions and science careers. As this project inspires and creates positive Science and Technology role models out of these girls, they will in turn empower the future generation of young women towards choosing and participating in Science and Technology.
