Teach for Mongolia, founded in 2022, addresses educational inequality by placing top recent graduates and young professionals as full-time teachers in rural schools. Between 2022 and 2025, we placed 41 teachers across 16 schools in 15 soums of 10 provinces, reaching over 9,300 students. Our fellows enhance education through innovative teaching methods and project-based learning. In the 2025-2026 school year, 21 teachers are serving in 11 schools across 9 soums in 7 provinces, directly impacting
Mongolia's education sector struggles with a severe urban-rural divide. With over 70% of the population in urban areas, rural education suffers, especially in STEM fields. By 2030, a teacher shortage of 32,000 is expected to worsen educational quality. PISA 2022 reports rural students lag 2-3 years behind urban peers and nearly 4 years behind OECD averages. The pandemic worsened this, leaving 27% of students behind due to limited internet and services.
In the past two years, we've placed skilled college graduates and young professionals as full-time teachers in remote schools with educator shortages. By engaging government, private sectors, NGOs, and youth, we craft and execute effective solutions. Our fellowship program trains these individuals to be change-makers and leaders. They guide students through transformative experiences, fostering global awareness and local connection, ultimately aiming to bridge the rural-urban educational gap.
Teach for Mongolia aims to build a strong alumni network of young leaders who will drive impactful change in education. We focus on developing ambassadors with the skills to lead systemic improvements and pass on valuable knowledge to future generations. Working with stakeholders and partner schools, our network of over 200 alumni seeks to empower more than 22,400 Mongolian students, promoting significant academic growth and leadership development by 2030.
