Despite the challenges COVID-19 has had on Thabang Children's Project we have continued to help the children to be challenged and to grow through education in this time; this has included volunteer teachers coming in (when lockdown regulations allowed) to tutor the children and assist with school projects.
The lockdown gave the children the opportunity to develop new skills as some participated for the first time in our annual Debate Day here at Thabang, which took place on Heritage Day (September 24th). In total, 12 of the children prepared debates surrounding the topics of education and birthdays. They were assisted by the carers of Thabang as well as volunteers. All of the children did an incredible job writing, memorising, and delivering their debates and we are very proud of their achievements. We had guest judges from the community for the event who evaluated the children based on their presentation of their debate, i.e. clarity of voice, memorisation, and length. The children thoroughly enjoyed this event and even one of our six-year-old children said at the end of the day that he is definitely going to debate next year.
