Educating the brightest and poorest youth of Haiti

When we look at all the issues facing the world today it is hard to imagine a solution for them all. World hunger, poverty, homelessness, violence, crime, etc. The list seems to go on and on. 

I know that I often find myself wondering about these issues as well. As I approach my eighth decade on this earth I wonder if I have done enough. Is there more that I can and could have done along the way?

I realized many years ago that I could not fix everything for everybody all the time. But I could be with the person I was with through whatever they were going through. One life at a time.

One life at a time became my modus operandi. A way of living and ministering to those around me.

I have been told often by my friends and colleagues that I am a good enabler. For some reason I see the gift in others and have a way of calling it out. My work and ministry have brought me into contact with literally hundreds of thousands of people. But the ones that impacted my life are those who I was able to be present to in the moment. It has been decades since I have seen or spoken to many of them, but their memory and their impact on my life are still felt today.

Do you remember an encounter you had with someone who impacted your life. An aunt or uncle, coach or teacher, teammate or classmate, brother or sister, mom, or dad, or even the insignificant (you thought) person on the street?

These questions are some of the reasons why I continue to work with BonZeb and its mission of serving the poorest and brightest students in Haiti. Through one student at a time BonZeb strives to make their life and lives of their family and communities better.

Education is the way out of poverty and all the other pitfalls that await us in life.
