Educating the brightest and poorest youth of Haiti

Good afternoon.

I hope this missive finds you in good health and enjoying the final days of autumn. With winter right around the corner it is time to give you a little update on our scholarship and school resource mission in Haiti.

After a long wait we were finally able to deliver our school supplies to schools in Hinche, Cap Haitien and Gonaives.

In good news our students at Cardinal Keeler, Fondation Vincent and University of Notre Dame, Hinche have graduated and matriculated to their next step in life. The schools would like us to begin supporting new students in 2015. To do that we will need to raise $2,000 in the next month. We also have three students attending school in Les Cayes. We have been able to give them the first semester tuition of $500 but need to raise another $500 for the winter/spring term.

Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” That is what all those we serve in Haiti desire. They want to see change in their world, and they know that educating their children is key to accomplishing that.

Even Benhamin Franklin knew the power education and said, “ An investment in knowledge pay the best interest.” Your gifts will have tremendous returns, not only for the students you support, but also for their families, communities and their nation.

But we need to keep in mind that, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Aristotle
