From September to December, we were active in Niš and the surrounding area, bringing art, knowledge, and solidarity to streets, schools, theaters, and public spaces.
In September, the 12th ArtFemine Festival celebrated feminist art and activism through exhibitions, performances, and discussions that amplified women’s voices, shared struggles, and resilience. More than 3,300 people took part in artistic programs, films, and performances addressing gender-based violence, social justice, and collective resistance.
During October and November, our focus was on education and prevention. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Femicide, the activists of the Center for Girls performed the performance 'Women's Graveyard' in the center of Niš. We held six lectures for young people on the prevention of human trafficking, reaching 169 students and 9 teachers across six high schools. In the same period, we organized three empowerment self-defense workshops—two with high school girls and one with adult women. A total of 44 girls and women participated, gaining knowledge on recognizing violence and unsafe situations, responding assertively, and learning basic physical self-defense techniques.
We also trained young women activists to become community leaders, organized workshops for children at the Daycare Center on violence, boundaries, and trust, conducted additional empowerment self-defense workshops for girls and women in Niš, and carried out public campaigns raising awareness about femicide and violence against women.
An informational social media campaign by the Center for Girls, aimed at raising awareness about violence against women, achieved significant reach and audience engagement. The campaign reached 75,703 people and generated strong engagement, with 119,931 views, 2,318 likes, 1,699 shares, 71 comments, and 172 saves.
We premiered the theater performance “Women’s Room” at a sold-out National Theatre. The play tells the story of heroines of World War II who were imprisoned in the so-called Women’s Room at the Crveni Krst concentration camp and who gave their lives in the fight against the occupiers, preserving the memory of women’s antifascist resistance and struggle.
In December, we launched a fundraising campaign to support our Children’s Daycare Center—a safe space for children, mostly Roma, who are at risk. Donations provide meals, clothing, safety, and moments of joy during the holidays.
During this period, continuous telephone support was also provided to women experiencing violence.
Throughout these months, we built alliances across cities and communities, showing that change is possible when people act together.
