Summary

Our community project supports children and families affected by poverty in Kibera. At our Nursery School, young children thrive in a nurturing environment with education, nutrition, and holistic care. Our educational support helps children continue learning-from primary school to university. For children in need of refuge and care, our Rescue Centre offers a stable and supportive home. We walk alongside families, providing support and connection to build strength and opportunity over time.

Challenge

Kibera is a densely populated informal settlement located in Kenya - often considered one of Africa's largest urban slums. Home to hundreds of thousands of residents-children in Kibera are especially vulnerable due to widespread poverty, limited access to clean water, healthcare, and quality education. With few opportunities for stable employment, families struggle to provide essential nutrition and educational support, further deepening children's vulnerability.

Solution

This project offers an alternative for children and families in Kibera: a safe place to get a healthy start to their lives, where 75 children receive early education, two daily meals, and the attention and care of a dedicated teaching and support staff at our Nursery School each year. We support over 50 students ages 7-25 years - to pay school fees to continue their education. And 11 children and youth access safe refuge in our Rescue Center.

Long-Term Impact

Ensuring educational opportunities, good nutrition and care for children ages three and up to help them lead healthier, more productive lives; freeing parents from child care so they can take advantage of employment opportunities; offering local solutions to help families in Kibera avoid hunger.
