One of the focuses of TawSaeng is community outreach. An effective way we've found to meet a need of connection, resoursing and encouragement is by taking students from our TawSaeng program to serve in rural communities in northern Thailand.
Our service trips serve two purposes: First, it is for our student to grow in their compassion for others while developing both the skills and heart for serving others. It is a key part of our mentoring process. Secondly, we have the opportunity to assist under-resourced and isolated communities and and encourage the local leaders who are serving there.
Recently, our staff and students from TawSaeng drove 11 hours from Chiang Mai to Essan for a third year. We served three provinces over the duration of three days. This region has a high level of poverty. We partnered with local leaders who are actively trying to serve the poor children in their area. Our students taught lessons of life-skills, English, led songs and games and we distributed backpacks, football jerseys and groceries for each family.
We have been invited to return again and we look forward to our next opportunity to serve again.
