After the liberation of Mosul from ISIL, the number of homeless orphaned children have increased dramatically to 1,600 children, some of their families were killed by ISIL and others died during the offensive to retake the city. These children are being exploited and most of them make a career of begging on street corners and traffic lights. Most of them experienced sexual harassment and we can say that all of them are dropouts. The project aims to help 500 children
As its clear to all, children are among the most vulnerable groups to the effects of the poverty and conflicts. According to the Humanitarian Needs Overview 2018, children in Iraq continue to suffer severe protection and educational risks during displacement and upon return. Recent studies highlight the heavy impact of post conflict of ISIL invasion in Mosul on children, who experienced a variety of protection, education and mental health issues after being subjected to the most extreme trauma.
As a result of the project 500 street children and youth individuals will be able to access psych-osocial support through case management and recreational activities as well as getting their rights. In addition, 20 case workers from LNGOs and government in Mosul will be trained in order to be able to provide adequate protection services to affected population.
The long term impact of this project will be the street- involved children will be protected and their resilience will be improved as well as they will have a better chance of the accessing education. Furthermore, the children throughout the legal supports services they receive will gain their lost documents back and this will help their a lot with their life routine. Thus, the project also tried to integrate those children to the community and make them an important part of the community.
