Project Report | Sep 6, 2024
Update August2024

By Valentina Di Felice | Head of Evidence and Learning

Despite the even more restrictive envirnment for women and girls Afghanistan, we continue our work to support primary education of girls from grade 1st to 6th in the form of 8 Community based education classes, and  to facilitate online classes in coding and web development for young women who are now left out from the education system in Afghanistan.

Since April, the children we supported in 2022 in grade 2nd in CBE classes moved to grade 3rd.

Of the students who completed grade 2nd , 216 children (142 girls and 74 boys) are formally registered and attending classes. Due to the delay in starting the school year in 2024, the academic calendar will be slightly modified: the mid-term exams are scheduled for the end of September (23rd) 2024, and the final exams for beginning of February (1st) 2025. We will be able to provide more information, when these resutls are released.

Since January, we have also organised 5 online courses for 155 participants. Of them, 33 dropped and 122 students completed courses, 93 are unique students: 31 enrolled for the first time in 2024 and 62 in 2023. It means that many students are enrolling to multiple courses.

Of the students who completed the various training modules, 13 (or 11%) with a score between 50% to 69% and 66 (54%) with a score of at least 70%. However, if we compare the difference between the entry test and the final test, overall, their average knowledge increased significanlt (by 66.6 points).
When looking at the satisfaction survey answered at the end of each training module, students (75% or more) have graded highly or very highly the courses across all dimensions, from educational material to teaching methodology, from new knowledge acquired to clarity of classes. 78% of the students believe that the course will help shape their plans and careers.

“What I enjoyed most about this Python course was the combination of practical and theoretical instruction. The instructors effectively presented Python concepts through lectures, demos, exercises, and projects. This interactive approach helped me better understand the material and develop my Python skills.” Student joining the Python class in partnership with the private company.

“Certainly, in the situation where Afghan girls are currently deprived of education, the creation of such classes with such facilities is not only useful for our educational and career future, but also saves us from the worries we have today, and I wish that, with the course, I will become a full stack web developer in the future. Thanks!” Student joining the Python class in partnership with the private company.
