Bridge the gap
![]()
The news from the Bethlehem Effeta Institute is not really good, this is due to the Covid-19 emergency.
Our school has been closed and sterilized. All students are currently studying at home. In order to follow and support our students, groups composed by students and their teachers have been created on major social networks: teachers send lessons and homework to do to pupils thanks to this tool. A Facebook page has been created for preschool children: educators and speech therapists send directions to parents, and they respond by sending videos or photos of what they have done. Despite the difficulty, caused by deafness, our pupils have shown great cooperation and a great desire to learn. Their devotion to school is evident. Teachers and educators have worked and are working hard to help the pupils, despite the distance.
We have noticed a great collaboration between parents and teachers too.
Unfortunately, however, some families can’t go on the internet, and we can only contact them by phone.
Moreover, the complete closure these children and their families are currently living in creates other difficulties: parents are unable to pay school fees either because they can’t reach the school or because they don’t work. Thus, it’s difficult for the school to fulfil its obligations, especially towards its employees.
What will happen in the future? It’s hard to know. The most important goal now is to be able to help these children, who are facing an additional difficulty beyond the one they have been living since birth.
