We had a really difficult time

By Michelangelo Gigli | Junior Project Manager

Dear friends,
We encountered some dark moments in Palestine, especially during July; in fact, during this period, the coronavirus nightmare continued unabated: data grew worryingly, reaching almost 6,000 active cases. The most dramatic situation was in the Hebron area, with 76% of cases, where many of the children and young people of our project live.
To contain the pandemic, the government declared a state of emergency for the third time. All stores were closed and cities like Bethlehem, which live on tourism, have paid and are paying a very high price.
But at least there was good news: all the children were fine and faced this difficult situation with great courage.

At the end of August, despite all the difficulties, they were ready to start again! .Our assistants worked day and night so that the school could reopen as soon as possible and in complete safety for all students and teachers.
Even if the lockdown was over, the number of cases in Palestine was still growing, but the children could not be allowed to miss even one more day of school and give up their speech therapy sessions: their future is at stake!

Today, in mid-September, all students have finally returned to Ephpheta: for now, classes with the students from middle school onwards are resumed in class, while everything possible is being done to get the little ones back next week!

To have them back here was an incredible emotion: finally in class, with a double transparent shield, otherwise, they couldn't read lips!
