Education is Freedom: Aleimar Standing Beside Hearing-Impaired Children

Dear Donors,
We are pleased to share an update on the project and to inform you that the collaboration between Aleimar and the Effetà Institute in Bethlehem continues to yield positive results. Despite the challenging socio-political situation in Palestine, all the children are doing well and are progressing in their educational paths.

We would also like to share with you the testimony of our local representative, who offers a heartfelt glimpse into daily life at the Institute:

“We began this school year with enthusiasm, looking to the present with confidence. Despite the complex context in which we operate, we work every day to ensure the well-being of our students, responding to their needs and supporting their personal growth with dedication and affection. The children returned to school with joyful smiles. Being reunited with friends, moving freely, communicating, playing, and studying has restored a sense of normality and dignity. We introduced new entry times, allowing students to arrive a bit later. This has improved internal organization and supported families, as the journey from home to school has become increasingly difficult. Numerous checkpoints slow down daily movement and, unfortunately, even the youngest children are stopped. The settlers do not take into account their age or the challenges they face every day. Many students are forced to take long detours to reach the Institute and often arrive late despite their efforts. For security reasons, we are unable to organize outings or field trips this year. We have therefore planned many activities inside the school to ensure that the children do not miss out on educational opportunities to which they are entitled. The situation is not easy, but we remain committed to giving every boy and girl the chance to experience the beauty of life.”

Her words remind us of how deeply the lack of freedom of movement, together with daily fear and uncertainty, affects the well-being of children. Growing up in a constant state of tension often leads to anxiety, sleep difficulties, stress, and emotional wounds that can last into adulthood.
In addition, worsening economic conditions mean that many families struggle to provide food, medical care, education, and clothing. This economic instability adds pressure and creates stress that weighs heavily on daily life and family relationships.

Despite these challenges, the students with hearing disabilities of the Effetà Institute face their educational journey with remarkable strength, curiosity, and determination. They are extraordinary young learners, capable of overcoming enormous obstacles and expressing themselves in powerful ways. Their resilience reminds us that education is not only knowledge, but it is also freedom, dignity and the possibility of shaping one’s own future.

Thanks to your support, these children can experience moments of joy and continue to believe in a better tomorrow. Your generosity allows them to feel protected, valued, and seen, despite the difficulties surrounding them.
