Challenge

The low level of literacy in Nyamwamba division is a serious impediment for the area's development. 57% of the area's populations are illiterate and most of them live in rural areas. The mountainous terrain further compounds the challenge to source learning materials to the most remote areas. This Project will give an opportunity to vulnerable people to go through a 6 months' training on basic literacy, numeracy and 5 months tailoring and cookery skills training.

Solution

The people will go through 6 months on basic literacy, numeracy and 5 months-long tailoring and cookery skills training and a week-long financial literacy training. By the end of the implementation period, the beneficiaries will be able to read, write, and work with numbers. It is hoped that this will help them find jobs and improve the budget planning within their households. Further to this, they will be able to make their own clothes, which will have a positive effect on their family finances

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide skills for life to the people. The project will provide people with employable skills needed for self-reliance and sustenance. The skills acquired will help them to find jobs or start their own enterprises which will improve their social, economic status and their living condition.
