This project will renovate a dilapidated classroom structure, build toilets, construct a computer laboratory and provide classroom furniture such as desks, chairs and tables to provide a conducive learning environment for 500 pupils in Umuolo Community Primary School, Idi-opi, a poor rural community in Enugu state, Nigeria.
Umu-olo community is suffering serious deprivation of basic life needs, while children lack adequate educational support from the government. The only public primary school is characterized by poor infrastructure and lack of facilities, ranging from broken classroom walls, to open roofs, overpopulation, lack of classroom furniture and situated in a bushy environment that houses reptiles. This project will help 500 pupils to study in a conducive environment to realize their potentials.
JHF will renovate a block of classrooms and provide classroom furniture. The children will have a conducive and safe learning environment which will make learning attractive. The teachers in turn will be more comfortable and motivated to teach with the presence of school resources. This will improve the pupil's academic performance. A Computer laboratory will expose children to technology and aid digital literacy while sanitary facilities will encourage hygiene practices.
1. The project will increase access to quality education for 200 rural children, enabling them to break through the poverty cycle, pursue numerous career opportunities, help support their families and build a better community. 2. Parents and community leaders will have feelings of inclusiveness in society. 3. There will be increased retention of children in schools thus promoting continuation to secondary classes.
