Project Report | Sep 1, 2026
The latest from Fly The Phoenix in Ecuador

By Dom Williams | Founder and Director

I hope all is well. Classes get back underway for the new school year in Ecuador with all the necessary extra costs for the school now covered by the sustainable plans we have implemented during the past years including Plan Moo (cows), Plan Cuy (guinea pigs) and large-scale agriculture.

Our support will now be directed towards mothers and students with varying disabilities living in extreme poverty to help with education, health and daily food for the family including elderly relatives.

We aim to introduce small sustainable income plans which can be undertaken at home for each family to help with extra income. One such plan includes rearing and harvesting crickets as a cheap and easy source of protein which can be eaten at home as well as sold. We will be trialling this over the coming months.

We will also help with school supplies for students so they can remain in education.

And finally we have been planting trees with the students in Guatemala. Each year we plant hundreds of trees around the communities with the students and their families to combat deforestation and also to cover our carbon footprint from our work in Latin America.

By purchasing the trees ourselves and planting them on land belonging to members of the communities we can ensure that the reforestation is being undertaken responsibly.

Thank you so much for all your continued support and have a great September. Don’t forget to check out next year’s 25th Phoenix Anniversary Charity Challenge in Ireland (follow the link below) - it would be great to see you there!

Cheers
