Summary

Rural India touts the largest population in the world for those living in extreme poverty (less than $2 per day). Hoogly Village in West Bengal has been in this category for generations and is working their way out. Providing daily access to education for girls and boys is one way they will change the future for generations to come. Empowering the next generation with the tool of education allowing them to earn a better income, will lift their community further out of the cycle of poverty.

Challenge

Living in rural poverty often requires whole families to find ways of making money or lightening the load for parents. Sometimes, this detracts from time available for school starting at very young ages. Collecting water, tending animals or working crops will become a priority for survival. By helping provide Transformational Community Development, we can make it possible for children to attend school while providing tutors and teachers to increase their ability to learn.

Solution

TCD processes help families help themselves through low cost, low tech solutions to providing food, water, wellness, education and income to their community. A hand-up from us brings out sustainability for a lifetime for villages around the world, including here in Hoogly village! Providing teachers and tutors, help children catch up from missed time & often cause them to excel in their school work as they desire to learn. Education, as we know, creates a solid future for children globally.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of educating children results in a cycle of independence, interdependence and a mind willing to engage in problem-solving. Breaking cyclical poverty must include providing educational resources for children as they are the future of each community, rural or urban, local or global. Providing the tools and resources needed for educational success in regions of the world less served will increase the potential for these communities to become viable long contributing villages.
