As an organization that protects children in conditions of social risk, this year, we opened the doors of a new foster home to protect around 80 abused, mistreated or abandoned GIRLS per year. Placing special emphasis on seeking mechanisms that reinforce adequate sexual and reproductive education, with the aim that sexuality and motherhood are a responsible and informed decision. Looking for a way to prevent the high percentage of unplanned pregnancies or as a consequence of child sexual abuse.
The gender inequality gap in Colombia remains almost unchanged for years. This, added to the high rates of child violence, teenage pregnancy and abandonment, means that the economic participation of women remains lower than that of men. In the last decade, Medellin has been bustling with tourists and digital nomads. Tourism has become the pole of economic development in Medellin, but this phenomenon has also brought sadness and abuse for many girls and women who fall for the "easy money"
Through education, coaching and mentoring, we prepare and empower vulnerable girls and young people to build a future free of abuse, beatings or abandonment. We provide them with a home, food, practical entrepreneurship courses, development of hard and soft skills and all the necessary tools to prevent the domestic abuse to which they have been subjected, so that they can later form healthy families and compete in the labor market.
By training and empowering 80 vulnerable girls and young women from low-income families each year, we are improving gender opportunities, thus seeking to improve their lives and that of their families. We train them as agents of social change who will become facilitators for the future. The girls will become part of a community of independent and empowered women, leading the transformation of themselves, a family and a society.
