Starting Another School Year at Escuela Adelante!

Our students during Valentine's Day!

We've officially started another school year at Escuela Adelante, and so much excitement has unfolded in these first few months! As a school community, we've come together to celebrate special occasions such as Valentine's Day and Women's Day. We've also embraced numerous dynamic learning experiences both in and out of the classroom, and even honed our students’ culinary skills through engaging cooking lessons. Here's a glimpse of our favorite accomplishments so far:

English Lessons for the Community: We're thrilled to announce that in 2024, we will be offering English classes for children, teenagers, and adults in San Juan del Sur. Held on Saturdays with free transportation to and from our school, these classes have already attracted a huge response, with five classrooms filled during our inaugural registration weekendand two rooms accommodating over 30 students each!

Technology Integration Across Grades: In a collaborative effort led by teachers Raquel and Yubielka, students across grades 3 to 7 delved into the realm of science and technology. Tailored to each developmental stage, the curriculum varies from understanding the basics of technology and differentiating between simple and complex machines for younger students to exploring its societal impact for older ones. Notably, students collaborated on creating vibrant murals showcasing technology's positive influence on communication, education, and entertainment, highlighting the rapid evolution occurring in this field.

Sports Achievements: 2024 has already set the stage for significant achievements among our young athletes. While our football team faced a setback against Escamequita, their inaugural appearance in municipal games showcased remarkable teamwork and determination. Similarly, our volleyball girls demonstrated exceptional skill and cohesion, despite a defeat against Stella Maris. Our chess team, led by teacher Luis, boldly entered their first local tournament, with student Quinn securing victory in the women's round, earning a spot in the departmentals! Every game, regardless of the outcome, offers invaluable learning opportunities for our students. We take immense pride in their efforts and dedication, confident they will continue to improve with each match!

Witnessing our students' rapid growth and development fills us with pride and optimism. As we strive to achieve our biggest goal for this year—launching our long-awaited high school—we rely on your continued support to create the necessary classroom space. Together, we have the power to turn our goals into reality and fulfill the dreams of many families. Thank you for being an essential part of this journey towards educational excellence and community empowerment!

Forget Black Friday! We love Giving Tuesday!

The biggest fundraising day of the year has arrived! To all of our friends, donors and supporters, it’s time to rally for Giving Tuesday. This year Giving Tuesday falls on November 28^th. We are less than 1 week to one of our biggest online fundraising events of 2023!

This year our partners at GlobalGiving are helping us be a part of a million-dollar movement! That is, there is over $1,000,000 in matching prize money for non-profit organizations like ours. The more donations we receive, the bigger our percentage of the matching prize money.

Not only that, but all new recurring donors will also receive an additional 1-time 100% match. This year however, we are asking donors to make 1 TIME GIFTS. If you sponsor a student or already give monthly, see if it’s not possible to give your entire yearly donation next Tuesday on Giving Tuesday. That way, our organization could receive the biggest match of the year!

Not only do we provide scholarships for students, thanks to your support, but we are also working to complete the construction of our primary school. Without the support of donors like you, it would be nearly impossible to provide both high-quality and ACCESSIBLE bilingual education.

And we are doing it. THANK YOU. Since, 2014 we have been offering high-quality, educational programming to the San Juan del Sur community. For 2024, we plan on launching our long-awaited high school. Building classrooms is a priority. Ensuring scholarships is a priority. Together we can make our goals a reality, and the dreams of many families come true.

Access to Escuela Adelante means access to a brighter future. Supporting us lifts up Nicaragua, Central America and makes our world a safer, more peaceful place.

Almost to the finish line!

Next year marks a milestone for Escuela Adelante!

We look forward to the launch of secondary school. When we first started thinking about the creation of a bilingual, innovative, and accessible school in Nicaragua, our minds originally went right to high school! We thought about the direct link from high school to university or career, and we wanted to be there for that important big life step and transition.

As we began to develop the concept further and preparel, we realized that the seeds aren't best sown after a plant has taken root and that the best way to make a lasting impact is to plant the seed at a very young age. And it was at that time that we began to develop preschool. This was 2016 and nearly 8 years have passed since then. We started with the youngest children and worked our way up adding a grade each year.

Now, nearly a decade has gone by and those students are set to go to high school, which in Nicaragua is 7^th grade.

We have looked forward to this moment for a long time and it is thanks to all of our donors that we have gotten this far as it never would have been possible to create such a school from scratch without the backing of so many wonderful individuals like you.

As Executive Director and Co-Founder, I truly see the finish line ahead! But, we still have one big problem. The problem is that the growth of our campus does not coincide with the growth of the school. As we add a grade each year, we’ve been unable to add a classroom too! Each classroom fully furnished costs about $55k. That's why every single dollar of this project goes to cover infratructure.

In order to meet our goals for 2024 and high school, we need donors to:

Mark December 5 on your calendar. It’s Giving Tuesday! And it’s the best day of the year to donate so we can receive a match through GlobalGiving.
Give a one-time gift on Giving Tuesday or sign up to become a new recurring donor and help us earn double that day through the matching program.
